Resolutions

Photobucket

Well, the confetti has cleared and after a week of thinking about my New Years resolutions, I think that I'm finally ready to commit to them. Here they are in no particular order:

I am WAY too hard on myself. I've always lived by the "everything can be done perfectly and if it's not done perfectly then you failed" way of thinking and I'm starting to realize more and more that I limit my opportunities by only doing things I'm really good at. So, I'm going to practice doing more things that I think I'll mess up (see resolution #2) and I'm going to be proud of what I do... even if it stinks. I actually put this into motion today when a friend asked me to sing at his wedding. Me? Sing at a wedding? Well, ok then. Fingers crossed!!

After years of bringing store bought food to parties and announcing that "cooking isn't really my thing" I'm ready to admit that it's not that I dislike cooking, it's that I'm terrible in the kitchen. Now, before all of you start judging Gayla for failing at her motherly duties let me tell you that she did try... really she did but I just can't do it. So, this year I'm gonna learn. I'm not sure if I'll take a class or just use my cookbooks but I'm gonna give it a go and I'll be sure to post what comes out of the oven... even if it's smoking.

I posted 115 blog entries last year which comes out to one post about every three or four days. I'm really proud that I managed to do that many entries but I actually make/photograph tons of stuff that never makes it online... mainly because sometimes I'm too lazy to post. My goal for 2012 is to not only do more photo shoots, more DIY projects and more photo experiments but to actually write about them. So far this resolution isn't off to a great start... I started this post in 2011.... and 4 other posts... none of which made it to the blog yet....OOPS! Anywho, here are a couple of my favorite posts from last year- the newspaper nails tutorial, the melted crayons on canvas art, the MUTEMATH video and the dishwasher film project. More coming soon!

Did you guys make any resolutions? Are you sticking to them so far? Jb
